Sign UpFor more than 25 years, Dr. Carter has truly lived—and taught—the literary life. As a counselor, her approach has always been to listen and provide individualized, thoughtful guidance to each of the 500 students (to-date) with whom she’s worked, helping them get accepted to schools such as Princeton University, Stanford University, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Scripps College, Boston College, Tufts University, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, Northeastern University, Brandeis University, NYU, Duke University, and Dartmouth College. Her immersive experience as an educator of literature and writing, counselor, and facilitator has taken her to Asia and all over Europe, as well as to prestigious day and preparatory schools in the U.S.
In her eight years as an instructor at Scripps, she enlightened avid readers and prepared young writers in her 19th Century British Literature and Rhetoric and Composition courses, respectively. As a college advisor and instructor at Pacific American School in Taiwan, she taught AP and Honors classes as well as college essay writing and test prep. While teaching English at Phoenix Country Day School and Notre Dame Preparatory in Scottsdale, AZ, she worked with high school students to write college letters, and for more than a decade, at her own college counseling company, she trained tutors and worked one-on-one with students through every step of the admissions process.
Dr. Carter’s love of language and literature has taken her many places—and earned her multiple certificates from the Sorbonne and Alliance Française—but she has always loved and known the Pasadena community well, as she spent many-a-childhood summer atop its hills. When she’s not helping future writers and scholars prepare for their college journey, she can be found knitting, reading (of course!), and winning literary awards for her short stories.

Collegewise was a great tool for both me and my parents during the college decision process. Being new to the country and not understanding how the process works, my counselor was outstanding in helping me during each step of the process. From shortlisting colleges, to helping me edit my essays, she was very encouraging and supportive, and has helped me become more prepared for college!

Collegewise helped really prepare me for the college application process. I could not have done all I did without my counselor. I really enjoyed meeting with her and being stress-free throughout the entire college application process.

We started searching online for college options to assist our son with the selection process and soon realized that there are so many options…even visiting them all would not help gain the insight we needed. We went to Collegewise to start the process early, and our counselor helped us reach our goals beyond our expectations.
